About

OABYH is the artistic moniker and sculptural practice of Portuguese artist Helder Fernandes. Operating at the discipline-blurring intersection of geometric abstraction, architectural form, and industrial material experimentation, the artist explores the silent balance between volume, light, and structural space.

OABYH’s artistic practice centers around the transformation of natural wood and wood composite (MDF). By developing specialized, proprietary studio techniques to patinate, dye, and texture this engineered wood fiber, the artist elevates an industrial material into an expressive medium for high-end art. His work—ranging from deep-relief wall structures to free-standing dimensional objects — challenges the traditional perception of material, transforming rigid geometry into tactile, timeless art pieces.

Every single object is independently developed — conceived, prototyped, and individually handcrafted to order by the artist himself. Embracing a deep commitment to environmental consciousness, OABYH focuses on sustainability by utilizing high-quality wood composites made from industrial wood processing by-products and sawdust, turning reclaimed resources into refined, quiet luxury.

Characterized by clean mathematical lines, a meticulous study of depth, and specialized matte finishes that dramatically capture shifting ambient shadows, OABYH's work is sought after globally by contemporary architects, interior designers, and private collectors.
