Signed lower right, 'Frank M. Hamilton' for Frank Moss Hamilton (American, 1930-1999) and painted circa 1965. Titled, verso, 'The Smugglers, Hong Kong' on artist card and inscribed, 'Kowloon, Hong Kong'.

A substantial, mid-century view of the modern harbor of Hong Kong with skyscrapers in the distance, including the Hong Kong Bank, and three large, wooden junks moored to a wharf in the foreground with numerous figures working and walking.
Frank Moss Hamilton first studied at the University of Kansas and, subsequently, at Stanford University where he earned a degree in architecture. He later studied watercolor painting with the American Impressionist landscape painter, Eliot O'Hara. In addition to his career as a fine artist, he was also a respected teacher at the San Francisco Art Institute. During the later part of his life, he lived and painted in Cambria, California.
Between the 1940s and 1970s, Hamilton had one-man exhibitions in Laguna Beach at the Festival of the Arts where he won First Prize in 1963, 1964 and 1965. He also exhibited in New York City, at Humboldt State College, at the Richmond Art Center and at the Franklin Mint Yearly Western Show where he was awarded First Prize in 1972, Additionally, he was a long-time member of the California Watercolor Society. Frank Moss Hamilton is listed in Mantle Fielding's Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
