Full of movement and character, the sculpture combines classical figurative modelling with a humorous and engaging subject. The boy is portrayed standing on one leg, his body gently twisting as he reaches towards his raised foot, while the small crab suspended below creates an amusing narrative element. The carefully modelled anatomy, expressive pose and naturalistic detailing demonstrate the sculptural quality of the piece. Cast in genuine bronze using the traditional lost-wax method and individually finished by hand, the figure displays a rich dark brown patina that accentuates the contours and modelling. Subtle variations in the patination are inherent to the hand-finishing process and contribute to the individual character of each casting. Standing approximately 86 cm high, this substantial bronze is suitable for both interior and exterior display. It would make an especially attractive feature beside a swimming pool, fountain or garden pond, amongst planting, on a terrace, or as a distinctive focal point within an interior.
