The sinuous dragon is dramatically modelled twisting through the air above stylised clouds, creating a dynamic composition with considerable presence from every angle. Finely cast scales cover the elongated body, complemented by pronounced dorsal spines, powerful clawed feet and an expressive horned head. The dragon appears to pursue a spherical pearl, a traditional motif in Chinese art often associated with wisdom, prosperity and spiritual power. The sculptural cloud-form base completes the composition and provides a substantial foundation for display. Cast in solid bronze using the traditional lost-wax method, the sculpture displays extensive textural detail and a rich two-tone patinated finish that accentuates the individual scales, facial features and contours of the body. The piece has been piped for water, allowing it to function as a dramatic fountain or water feature as well as a freestanding sculpture. At almost one metre high and wide, this substantial bronze would make an exceptional focal point within a garden, courtyard, entrance hall, hotel or large interior.
