It's thought that fish are more likely to bite on a moving barometer - when the barometric pressure is either rising or falling the fish are more apt to bite! For use at altitudes up to 3,000 ft.
This self-registering barometer is used to indicate atmospheric pressure. With each atmospheric change the needle of the barometer rises or falls.
During time of storms, hurricanes, or other strong weather conditions, there is a rise in pressure. The rise in barometric pressure indicates to the fisherman that it may be time to go fishing.
Increases in pressure are registered at the bottom of the dial by arrows pointing up - indicating higher pressure.
The opposite is true for decreases in barometric pressure - arrows point down - indicating lower pressures. Thus, fish more likely to bite when you have a meter.
Seather Guide Series Downeaster has revived a wonderful old tradition the Fishing Barometer. Historical data show that the best time to catch fish is on a moving arometer; this instrument's easy-to-read dial reads in inches (28.5 to 31.5), and defines when the fish are more apt to bite. This model has a face plate with a Striped Bass logo and is mounted inside a solid Brass, highly polished case. See less
