The bowl is formed from cranberry glass with an attractive frosted and textured surface, creating a softly diffused appearance that contrasts beautifully with the more vibrant applied decoration. The upper edge is embellished with an applied wavy rim in contrasting citrine-coloured glass, believed to contain uranium, creating a striking decorative border around the vessel. Further applied detailing enhances the sculptural quality of the piece and demonstrates the skilled hand craftsmanship involved in its production. The combination of deep cranberry tones, frosted texture and vibrant citrine glass gives the bowl considerable visual appeal and reflects the experimental approach to colour and decorative techniques found in late Victorian art glass. As a hand-blown piece, subtle variations within the glass contribute to its individuality and authentic period character. A particularly attractive example of late 19th-century decorative glass, suitable for collectors of Victorian art glass, cranberry glass and uranium glass or as an elegant decorative object in its own right.
