Crafted by d f and hallmarked in sheffield for 1992, the piece combines traditional british silversmithing with an elegant maritime-inspired design. The dish is formed with the distinctive radiating ribs and gently undulating outline characteristic of a scallop shell. These sculptural details give the silver surface attractive depth and texture, allowing light to play across the polished metal and emphasise its naturalistic modelling. Shell forms have a long tradition within european decorative arts and silverware, appreciated for their graceful symmetry and association with the sea. Here, the familiar form has been translated into solid silver to create an attractive object that is both decorative and functional. Its compact proportions make it particularly versatile. It could be used as a trinket or jewellery dish, a small serving piece, or simply displayed as a sculptural silver object on a dressing table, desk or console. The sheffield hallmark dates the piece precisely to 1992, placing it within the continuing tradition of british silver craftsmanship in the late 20th century.
