Crafted in solid silver, this handsome piece is a fine example of georgian silversmithing and dates to more than 250 years ago. The coffee pot displays the elegant proportions and restrained sophistication associated with georgian silver. Its beautifully balanced form allows the quality of the silver and accomplished construction to take centre stage, creating an object that is both highly decorative and historically significant. Thomas wallis i was an english silversmith working during the 18th century, and the combination of identifiable maker, london assay and precise 1771 hallmark gives the piece particular appeal to collectors of early english silver. The piece is identified as solid silver and georgian in both pattern and style. Originally intended as an important component of a formal georgian coffee service, the pot now makes an impressive decorative object for a dining room, library or collection of 18th-century british silver. Its substantial age, precious-metal construction and documented georgian provenance make it a particularly desirable example of pre-1800 english table silver.
