Crafted in solid silver during the reign of George V, the piece represents an elegant example of early 20th-century British table silver. The listing confirms the maker, Sheffield 1923 date, British origin and solid-silver construction. The bowl is conceived as an elegant presentation piece, with a broad open form providing a generous surface for displaying fruit, cakes or confectionery. Its beautifully balanced proportions give the piece considerable presence while retaining the refinement associated with quality English silver. The polished sterling silver surface catches and reflects light across the body, emphasising the quality of the craftsmanship and giving the piece a sophisticated decorative character. Its restrained design allows the form and natural lustre of the precious metal to remain the principal visual features. Atkin Brothers was an established Sheffield silversmithing firm producing quality silverware throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. The combination of a recognised maker, solid sterling silver construction and precise 1923 date gives this example particular appeal to collectors of British decorative silver. Originally intended for formal table service, the piece remains entirely functional and would also make an impressive centrepiece on a dining table, console or sideboard.
