The body is fashioned in a plain domed form with a graceful wavy-edged border. A sweeping scroll handle is embellished with an applied acanthus leaf motif in relief, adding a sophisticated decorative accent to the otherwise restrained design. The piece is raised upon three naturalistically modelled hoof feet, each capped with finely detailed shell motifs, giving the gravy boat an elegant elevated profile and excellent stability. Crafted in Britannia Standard silver, with a purity of 95.84%, the piece bears the distinctive Britannia and lion’s head erased marks associated with this higher silver standard. Fully hallmarked for Dublin 1968 and additionally bearing a Sheffield import mark for 1967. The piece has a substantial net silver weight of approximately 196.7 grams. Presented in very good vintage condition with only minor age-related surface marks.
