The kettle features a beautifully proportioned body enriched with refined reeded decoration, lending texture and definition to the polished silver surface. The hinged cover is surmounted by an ornamental finial, providing an attractive finishing detail to the composition. A particularly distinctive feature is the hand-engraved heraldic crest decorating the body, adding character and a sense of provenance to this impressive piece of silverware. The kettle rests upon its accompanying stand, elegantly raised on three naturalistically modelled scallop-shell feet. These sculptural supports provide both stability and decorative interest, complementing the traditional form of the kettle above. Fully hallmarked for london 1975, the piece dates from the reign of queen elizabeth ii while drawing strongly upon earlier georgian and victorian traditions of formal silver tea and hot-water service. An impressive and highly decorative example of 20th-century english sterling silver, suitable for use as part of a formal tea service or as a distinguished table centrepiece and collector’s object.
