Very well made and of fine quality, this handsome chest offers an impressive amount of storage despite its desirable smaller footprint, making it an exceptionally versatile piece for a bedroom, hallway or living space. The chest is fitted with five practical drawers, traditionally arranged with two smaller drawers positioned above three larger graduating drawers. This classic configuration provides ample storage for clothing, linens and other household essentials while creating an attractive and well-balanced façade. Each drawer retains its original brass swan neck handles, providing a beautiful traditional detail and complementing the warm tones and established character of the oak. The top is particularly attractive, featuring beautiful cross-banded decoration that introduces subtle contrast and additional visual interest while enhancing the refined Georgian style influence of the piece. Raised on traditional bracket feet, the chest has a sturdy and well-balanced stance that works particularly well with its compact proportions and classic drawer arrangement. The oak has matured beautifully, displaying gorgeous natural grain, rich warm colouring and attractive tonal variation throughout. Its established surface gives the chest considerable depth and genuine 19th-century character. At only 64 cm wide and 41 cm deep, its compact dimensions are particularly desirable. Despite measuring just 62.5 cm high, the five-drawer arrangement provides substantial storage capacity, making it an excellent choice where space is limited. The combination of its smaller proportions, five graduating drawers, original brass swan neck handles, cross-banded top and beautifully matured oak makes this a particularly appealing example. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable Georgian style oak chest of drawers combining excellent storage, elegant period-inspired detailing and wonderfully compact proportions within a timeless 19th-century design.
