Each spoon features a generously proportioned bowl modelled in an elegant scallop-shell form, complemented by an ornate decorative stem. The terminals are particularly distinctive, fashioned with scrolling ornament and a finely modelled cavalier’s head in relief. The bowls retain their original gold-wash gilding, creating an attractive contrast with the polished sterling silver handles. The gilding displays some light rubbing consistent with age and use. Both spoons bear matching London hallmarks for 1887 and have a substantial combined net silver weight of approximately 188.8 grams. Presented in very good antique condition with no noted damage, bruises or repairs. They remain free from later engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms and retain a beautiful bright patina. Hallmarked ; London 1887 Maker's mark for ; Mappin & Webb . ( John Newton Mappin ) Both spoons bear the identical marks.
