The bowl is designed in an unusual octagonal form, with a smoothly hollowed hemispherical interior contrasted by a geometrically faceted exterior. The outer surfaces display pronounced polygonal facets that interact beautifully with the naturally mottled violet tones of the amethyst. Raised upon a simple circular base, the bowl has a compact yet sculptural presence, allowing the natural variations, translucency and crystalline character of the stone to remain the principal decorative focus. The amethyst displays naturally occurring striations, fissures and variations within the crystal. These are inherent characteristics of the natural material rather than later damage and contribute to the individuality of the piece. Amethyst has been valued as an ornamental semi-precious stone for centuries and is also traditionally associated with a variety of symbolic and metaphysical beliefs. Presented in very good condition with no noted damage or restoration and ready for use or display.
