The shallow circular dish is finely hand engraved and inlaid with an array of coloured enamel floral motifs, creating a rich decorative contrast against the warm gilded metal surface. The delicate flowers and foliage demonstrate the highly ornamental character associated with French decorative arts of the period. The perimeter is finished with an elaborate gadrooned and rope-twist border, adding texture and definition to the composition while reinforcing its sophisticated Neoclassical influence. The dish is raised upon an elegant circular stepped pedestal base, giving the piece a graceful elevated profile suitable for use as a decorative centrepiece. The base is detachable, reflecting the considered construction of the piece. Dating from the late 19th century, this highly decorative French tazza combines gilded metalwork, hand engraving and colourful enamel ornamentation to striking effect. An attractive example of French decorative craftsmanship, ideal for display on a console, dining table, mantelpiece or within a collection of European decorative arts.
