The chest is arranged with two smaller drawers positioned above a single full-width drawer, providing practical storage while creating an attractive and beautifully balanced façade. The drawers retain their brass handles and fittings, which provide an elegant contrast against the rich tones of the walnut and complement the refined period character of the piece. Standing on graceful cabriole legs with beautifully carved knees, the chest displays the flowing lines and restrained decorative character associated with Queen Anne furniture. The carefully shaped supports give the piece an elegant silhouette while demonstrating the quality of craftsmanship evident throughout. Particularly impressive is the walnut, displaying breathtaking natural figuring, rich grain patterns and a wonderful depth of warm colour. The character and variation within the timber give the chest considerable visual presence and make the walnut itself one of its most compelling features. The combination of beautifully figured timber, elegant cabriole supports and restrained brass fittings creates a sophisticated composition characteristic of fine early 18th-century furniture. Generously proportioned at 128 cm wide, the chest provides substantial storage while retaining a relatively low and elegant profile. It would make a striking addition to a bedroom, drawing room, hallway or collection of fine period furniture. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 18th-century origin. A highly desirable Queen Anne chest of drawers combining exceptional walnut figuring, elegant proportions, brass fittings and beautifully carved cabriole legs within a distinguished early English design.
