The substantial bowl is richly ornamented with hand-chased repoussé decoration, incorporating pronounced lobes and shallow curved fluting that create an attractive rhythm across the silver surface. The combination of sculptural form and restrained ornament gives the piece a sophisticated architectural quality. The bowl is raised upon a circular stepped pedestal base, providing an elegant elevated profile and giving the piece considerable presence when displayed as a table centrepiece. Designed in the neoclassical taste, the balanced proportions and rhythmic decoration reflect earlier georgian silver traditions while demonstrating the high standard of british craftsmanship of the early 20th century. Its generous form makes the piece suitable for use as a traditional punch bowl or as an impressive rose bowl filled with floral arrangements. Equally, it would make a striking decorative centrepiece when displayed independently. The bowl bears london hallmarks for 1913 together with the maker’s mark for harrison brothers & george howson. The hallmarks show some rubbing consistent with age but remain legible. A substantial and highly decorative example of early 20th-century english sterling silver, combining fine repoussé workmanship, elegant neoclassical styling and a distinguished british maker.
