Very well made and of good quality, this handsome chest demonstrates accomplished traditional craftsmanship and has a particularly refined appearance, making it suitable for both period and contemporary interiors. The front is arranged with four drawers in total, comprising two smaller drawers above two larger graduating drawers. This practical configuration provides generous storage for clothing, linens and other household essentials while creating an attractive and balanced façade. Each drawer retains its original decorative brass handles, providing an elegant contrast against the richly coloured mahogany and contributing considerably to the traditional character of the piece. Particularly attractive is the decorative satinwood stringing and crossbanding framing the drawer fronts. These contrasting details provide subtle definition and demonstrate the care and attention invested in the cabinet work. Finely reeded edges introduce another layer of decorative interest, further enhancing the architectural quality of the chest without overwhelming its otherwise restrained design.
