The façade is arranged as three faux drawers, creating the appearance of a traditional period chest. Each retains its brass handles, while fine ebony stringing provides an elegant contrast against the rich mahogany and emphasises the carefully balanced proportions of the piece. Rather than functioning as individual drawers, the hinged top lifts to reveal a surprisingly spacious single storage compartment, making the piece both highly practical and visually intriguing. The chest is raised upon elegant splayed feet, giving its compact form a graceful silhouette characteristic of refined English cabinet furniture. Particularly attractive is the mahogany, displaying pronounced natural grain and figuring throughout. Deep, warm colour and a mature patina developed through centuries of age and use further enhance its authentic period character. Exceptionally well constructed and presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 18th-century origin. At only 55.5 cm wide, this is an unusually compact and versatile piece.
