Based on the British registration number (Rd. No. 656363) stamped on the back, this plate was registered and manufactured in 1916.
While the "Yuan" pattern remained popular and was produced by Wood & Sons for several decades, the registration number explicitly anchors the design origin and the manufacturing window of this specific piece to the late World War I era.

The "Yuan" Design: Introduced around 1916, "Yuan" became the company's most famous and longest-lived pattern, staying in continuous production until the late 20th century. The pattern was created by the noted art director Frederick Rhead. He based the Chinoiserie bird-and-border graphics directly on an authentic 13th-century Chinese artifact he studied at the British Museum. See less
