These vintage ceramic figures are a mirrored pair of squirrels, each perched on a tall, tapering tree stump and facing inward as if sharing a quiet moment. Each squirrel sits hunched with its forepaws raised to its mouth in a nibbling pose, its round cheeks, small rounded ears, and glossy black bead eyes giving it a lively, lifelike expression. The fur is rendered in warm russet, chestnut, and burnt orange with a mottled, speckled texture that mimics a natural coat, while a pale cream chest and muzzle add soft contrast. The tails are the showpiece. One sweeps up in a tall, feathered plume, and the other curls in a more slender, serpentine arc, each carved with fine, flame-like strands of fur. The stumps are modeled with deep, flowing bark and root-flare detail, painted in chalky whites, taupe, and umber so the grain appears weathered and driftwood-like. The matte, hand-painted finish has a soft, chalky depth, and subtle dry-brush highlights bring out each ridge and fold. The two figures are closely matched in scale and palette yet individually posed, giving the set a charming, narrative character.
Place these figures on a mantel, console, bookshelf, or sideboard, where they work as a symmetrical pair flanking a mirror, lamp, or arrangement, or tuck them into a sunroom or entry for a woodland touch. They complement Rustic, Farmhouse, Traditional, Cottage, and Organic Modern interiors, especially alongside natural wood, plaid textiles, and greenery. To care for them, dust gently with a soft brush or dry cloth, avoid water and chemical cleaners that could lift the painted finish, and keep them out of prolonged direct sunlight. Handle by the base rather than the tails. Each figure measures approximately 8.75 inches (222 mm) wide, 5 inches (127 mm) deep, and 18.75 inches (476 mm) high. Offered in very good vintage condition, the pair has a well-preserved original finish with a warm patina, minor surface wear, and no significant chips or cracks, and is structurally sound and display-ready. Add this charming pair to your collection today.
