This vintage two-tier side table is built in the stacked rattan tradition associated with Paul Frankl, with a low, wide lower platform and a smaller, offset upper shelf that rises like a stepped terrace. Each tier is formed from bundled rattan poles bent into soft, rounded-corner bands, stacked one above another with open gaps between them for a rhythmic, ripple-like silhouette. Short vertical blocks of rattan rods link the layers, and their cut ends form neat, circular details along the sides. The lower tier sits on two splayed feet of tightly bundled canes, which give the form a gentle lift and a sculptural stance. Both tops are smooth, honey-to-reddish-brown wood panels with a satiny sheen, each framed by a slim rattan edge band that traces the softly rounded corners. The warm, glowing finish deepens at the curves and joints, with subtle shifts in tone from pale straw to rich amber across the poles. The airy, openwork construction keeps the piece visually light, while the two staggered surfaces add a functional, architectural dimension that sets it apart from a standard side table.
Place this table beside a sofa or lounge chair, in a sunroom, or at the end of a daybed, where the two levels hold a lamp, a drink, and a few books. It complements Mid-Century Modern, Boho, Coastal, Hollywood Regency, and Organic Modern interiors, especially with woven textures and lush greenery. To care for it, dust with a soft, dry cloth or a vacuum brush attachment, wipe the tops with a barely damp cloth, use coasters to protect the finish, and avoid harsh chemicals, standing moisture, and prolonged direct sunlight. The table measures 30.25 inches (768 mm) wide, 31 inches (787 mm) deep, and 23.5 inches (597 mm) high. Offered in very good vintage condition, it retains its original finish with a warm patina, minor surface scuffs and small nicks along the edges, and is structurally sound with no visible repairs or significant damage.
