This vintage three-panel folding screen is built entirely from honey-toned rattan poles, with the segmented, bamboo-like canes lashed and joined into a crisp architectural frame. Each tall panel is filled in its upper two-thirds with an open fretwork of intersecting diagonals and right-angled bars. The pattern is the classic Chinese Chippendale lattice, and it casts shifting, graphic shadows when light passes through. Horizontal rails divide the lattice into stacked sections, giving the design a stepped, rhythmic cadence from panel to panel. The lower third of every panel is closed with a tightly set bank of vertical rattan rods, which adds privacy at seat height and a ribbed, tactile contrast to the airy openwork above. The warm golden finish carries a gentle, aged patina, with subtle variations in tone along the nodes and joints of the cane. Slim metal hinges in a darkened, antiqued finish connect the panels and let the screen fold and zigzag freely, so it stands securely in an accordion configuration. The airy, light-filtering construction keeps the screen visually weightless, and the clean, well-aligned joinery reflects careful craftsmanship.
Use this screen to divide an open-plan living area, frame a dining nook, conceal a work corner, or stage a dramatic backdrop behind a bed, sofa, or console. It complements Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Coastal, Boho, and Mid-Century Modern interiors, especially alongside lacquer, brass, and lush greenery. To care for it, dust with a soft, dry cloth or a vacuum brush attachment, spot clean with a barely damp cloth, and avoid harsh chemicals, standing moisture, and prolonged direct sunlight to protect the rattan. The screen measures 60 inches (1524 mm) wide, 1.25 inches (32 mm) deep, and 72 inches (1829 mm) high when fully extended. Offered in very good vintage condition, it has its original finish with a warm patina, minor scuffs and slight wear at the base, and is structurally sound with no visible repairs or losses.
