The carved, shaped backs and the cabriole legs follow the curved vocabulary of the style. The Louis XV style takes its name from the French king who reigned from 1715 to 1774, and its taste for curved lines and graceful ornament, known as Rococo, shaped French furniture for generations. Provincial workshops kept the cabriole leg and the shaped apron alive long after the court had moved on. A natural patina has developed over the decades, adding depth that cannot be reproduced.
