Likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, this distinctive sporting antique reflects the practical craftsmanship and understated character of early recreational furnishings.

The rectangular wooden case incorporates substantial vertical side supports, a slightly projecting molded cornice, and a coordinating lower molding. Six open horizontal compartments provide organized storage and display for billiard balls, while vertically arranged wooden backboards create an attractive architectural backdrop.

Faint markings along the central backboard offer an additional connection to the rack’s original billiards function. The straightforward construction and traditional wooden joinery recall the specialized accessories once found in billiards rooms, private clubs, and recreational establishments.

The dark brown wood surfaces complement the simple geometric proportions, giving the rack a versatile decorative presence beyond its original sporting purpose.

Measuring just 23 inches square with a particularly shallow four-inch depth, the rack is ideally proportioned for displaying billiard balls, vintage sporting accessories, or carefully arranged collections of small decorative objects.

An appealing addition to a traditional game room, private library, home bar, or eclectic interior incorporating antique sporting equipment and country furnishings.
