Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
This fun-to-look-at “two-faced” owl studio pottery earthenware cachepot will complement most any design sensibility. Its whimsical design will display a fabulous live or artificial plant. Note, it’s water tight without a drainage hole. Photos were taken in the round to show all sides and any varying shades and nuances of the cachepot’s color and texture. It measures 7¼” x 6¾” x 6” W/D/H; interior 6” x 6” x 5½” W/D/H; weight 2 lbs. 1 oz.; handcrafted from earthenware with a highly glazed finished. Colors are varying shades of grey and white accented with umber brown eyelids; yellow under eyes and beak; black outlined accents. In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear which includes crazing to the interior of the finish. Of note, there is a slight V-shaped chip on the interior underside of the rim that is not very discernible (see photos 6 & 10) which does not affect the overall beauty or utility of the cachepot. There are three firing pin marks on the underside as a result of the manufacturing process. The style is similar to majolica ware crafted by Mottahedeh, et al and/or fine ceramic ware from Portugal or Italy. Maker’s initials on the underside along with a series of numbers that may signify the number made. We believe this cutie to be a handcrafted piece made in the USA sometime in the late 1980s.
A must have for a lover of all things owl or for a collector of whimsical and unique figurative earthenware cachepots, or the perfect gift for someone who is.
