The vase is richly decorated with vibrant enamels and gilding, incorporating finely detailed panels of court figures framed by elaborate borders of birds, flowers, plants and butterflies. Produced as Chinese export porcelain for the European and American markets, the piece displays the elaborate decorative vocabulary associated with early 19th-century Rose Mandarin wares. The combination of figural scenes, botanical motifs and gilded detailing gives the vase considerable decorative presence. The enamel and gilt decoration retains strong colour with only minimal wear.
