The vase is richly decorated with vibrant enamel colours and extensive gilding in the elaborate Famille Rose tradition. Its surface features alternating decorative panels depicting court scenes and figures alongside compositions of birds, flowering plants and butterflies. This alternating arrangement of figural and naturalistic panels is characteristic of Rose Medallion decoration and creates a particularly rich visual effect across the substantial lidded form. Produced during the first half of the 19th century, the vase belongs to the tradition of finely decorated Chinese export porcelain made principally for European and American markets. Standing 30 cm high, it has an impressive decorative presence while retaining the intricate enamel painting and gilded detail associated with early Rose Medallion porcelain.
