Constructed from solid oak, the cupboard has developed an attractive medium oak colour and rich natural patina. The sides are formed with traditional fielded panels, while the substantial structure is supported on stile feet. The façade is particularly decorative, incorporating marquetry inlay depicting floral motifs alongside hand-carved ornament including mythical figures and Tudor rose designs. The combination of carving and contrasting inlay gives the cupboard considerable visual character while retaining the robust appearance associated with English country furniture. The upper section is fitted with two doors, while the lower section incorporates three further doors, providing extensive enclosed storage. The piece separates into two sections for easier transportation and installation. Traditional construction details include pegged joints, rose-head nails and the original boarded back. The aged oak displays an attractive surface and patination consistent with its considerable age. A handsome and highly decorative piece of 18th-century country furniture, equally suitable as a statement storage cabinet, dining-room cupboard or focal point within a period interior.
