The large circular charger displays a highly decorative stylised design characteristic of Japanese ceramic production of the period. Its generous 36 cm diameter gives the piece considerable visual presence and allows the decorative composition to be appreciated as both a functional ceramic form and an ornamental work. Produced in Japan and identified as Arita ware, the charger belongs to the important porcelain tradition that developed in the Hizen region and became internationally recognised for its distinctive decorative ceramics.
