The vase features a mythical Ho-Ho bird surrounded by flowers and butterflies against a vivid turquoise-blue ground. The remainder of the body is richly decorated over a green-brown ground with bands of naturalistic geometric ornament. The interior is finished in emerald-green enamel, adding another layer of colour to this compact and highly decorative example of Japanese cloisonné work. The vase remains in very good condition.
