The generously proportioned rectangular top is formed from two substantial oak planks, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Rich golden-brown tones and a mature patina give the timber considerable warmth and character. The table is raised upon boldly proportioned barley-twist legs, creating a highly decorative architectural presence characteristic of traditional English furniture. The substantial supports are united by a robust stretcher arrangement, providing excellent stability while further enhancing the sculptural quality of the base. Exceptionally solid and heavy in construction, the table demonstrates considerable craftsmanship and was clearly designed for longevity. The substantial tabletop can be removed from the base, making transportation and installation considerably easier. Presented in very good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its 19th-century origin. At 189 cm long, the table offers generous dining space and would make an impressive centrepiece within a dining room, country house, farmhouse or characterful contemporary interior.
