Designed with a scissor-action mechanism, the tongs are finely hand-pierced and engraved with decorative foliate, floral and stylised motifs. Crafted in .833 standard silver, the piece bears a 1955 date letter together with a pictorial maker's mark. An attractive example of mid-20th-century Dutch silver craftsmanship, combining decorative pierced work with a practical serving form.
