Beautifully constructed from substantial English leather hide, the trunk displays a wonderfully aged surface with rich colour, natural wear and patination developed through more than a century of use. The character of the leather gives the piece considerable decorative appeal while preserving its authentic Victorian appearance. The outer edge of the lid bears the Peal & Co maker's mark together with the Oxford Street, London address. The trunk is fitted with substantial brass hardware, including a heavy-duty central lock. Opening the lid reveals a spacious interior containing a pair of vintage Field Marshal leather riding boots, UK size 9. A pair of traditional boot pulls is also retained within the lid, creating an appealing ensemble connected with the trunk's original purpose. Peal & Co traced its history to 1791 and became one of London's distinguished bootmaking firms, particularly associated with high-quality handmade footwear and leather goods. The business continued trading until the 20th century, and surviving period pieces bearing the Peal & Co name remain evocative examples of traditional British leather craftsmanship.
