The substantial oak frame features carved detailing throughout, including a distinctive yew tree and crossed axes motif. The yew tree has long been associated symbolically with longevity, renewal and regeneration, adding an interesting decorative element to the chair’s commanding design. The tall back, seat and armrests have been sympathetically reupholstered in leather, retaining the traditional character of the original design while providing a comfortable and practical seating surface. with its architectural proportions, substantial construction and richly carved oak framework, the chair has a particularly strong decorative presence and works equally well as a statement armchair or ceremonial-style throne chair. Presented in excellent antique condition. The leather upholstery is a later replacement, sympathetically chosen to complement the period character of the chair.
