The lid is deeply carved with a central vacant heraldic shield surrounded by intertwined English rose and Scottish thistle motifs. Further carved foliate scrollwork extends across the front and sides, creating an attractive decorative composition enhanced by the rich tone and naturally aged patina of the oak. The interior provides useful storage for jewellery, letters, documents or other personal objects, while the original brass lock mechanism and hinges remain present. A particularly decorative example of late Victorian craftsmanship, combining practical storage with traditional British symbolism and finely executed hand carving. Presented in good antique condition with an attractive aged patina. The carving remains crisp with no significant losses. The original hinges and lock mechanism are present, although the key is absent. The box remains structurally sound with wear consistent with its age and historic use.
