The stand is constructed from wood with richly modelled gilded gesso decoration and is surmounted by a removable rouge marble top. The deep red tones and natural figuring of the marble provide an attractive contrast to the gilded base. The sculptural frame is supported by three turned legs and decorated with classical acanthus leaf motifs. A distinctive pineapple finial beneath the tier provides an additional decorative element and enhances the elaborate character of the design. The marble top can be removed for easier transportation. Presented in good antique condition and structurally sturdy, with areas of wear to the gilding together with minor knocks and marks consistent with age and historic use.
