The removable octagonal top is richly ornamented with concentric carved borders surrounding an intricately worked central circular panel of floral and foliate decoration. The detailed craftsmanship creates a densely patterned surface characteristic of Anglo-Indian decorative furniture of the period. The eight-sided base is formed from individually hinged panels that fold completely flat when the top is removed, providing a particularly practical solution for transportation and storage. Each panel is extensively pierced and relief carved with exotic birds amongst palm-like foliage and botanical motifs, framed by dense scrolling floral ornament. The continuous decoration gives the table considerable visual interest from every angle. The hardwood has developed an attractive aged patina. There are historic losses to sections of the pierced decoration, as visible in the photographs, but these have been left untouched as part of the table's history and character. The table remains structurally sound, with its folding base and removable top functioning as intended.
