The panel would once have been incorporated into a tobacconist shop window, interior advertising display or glazed cabinet door, promoting the well-known British Player’s cigarette brand. The reverse-printed construction preserves the graphic advertising design behind the substantial glass surface, giving the piece a distinctive visual depth and making it particularly appealing as an example of historic British commercial advertising. Today it makes an attractive piece of tobacciana and advertising memorabilia, equally suited to a collection of vintage signage or as a distinctive decorative wall display.
