Handmade in porcelain, the sculptural … Read more An exceptional English Derby porcelain figural candelabra dating to circa 1805, during the Duesbury period. Handmade in porcelain, the sculptural composition is set upon an elaborate gilt scroll Rococo base and decorated with finely applied polychrome overglaze enamels. The quality and richness of the decoration are characteristic of the sophisticated English porcelain produced during the Georgian period. The piece retains the correct red Duesbury Derby mark to the reverse, consisting of the crown, crossed batons and letter D for Derby. Standing 24 cm high, the candelabra combines the sculptural qualities of a figurine with the elaborate ornamental character of early 19th-century Derby porcelain. The piece appears to remain in excellent condition with no visible restoration.
