The chest is arranged with four graduated drawers beneath a traditional planked oak top. The façade is distinguished by bold geometric panel decoration, while the panelled sides and original panelled back further demonstrate its substantial period construction. Traditional pegged joinery and rosehead nails are visible throughout. The drawers are fitted with old brass handles decorated with primitive face motifs; these are later replacements rather than the original handles. Raised on bracket feet, the chest has a strong architectural form and generous proportions. It is constructed as a single piece and does not retain a key. A characterful example of early to mid-17th-century English country furniture, combining robust oak construction, geometric detailing and an exceptionally attractive aged surface.
