The sculpture depicts a seated robot whose body has been ingeniously constructed from salvaged mechanical elements. Components including car parts and a carpenter’s plane have been incorporated into the figure, with gears, fittings and other industrial pieces contributing to its highly detailed mechanical appearance. Rather than disguising the original purpose of its materials, the design celebrates their industrial heritage. Recognisable components have been carefully arranged to create the robot’s body, limbs and distinctive character, resulting in a unique piece of assemblage art with considerable sculptural presence. The exposed mechanisms, aged metallic surfaces and imaginative construction strongly evoke the retro-futurist aesthetic associated with steampunk design, combining imagery inspired by historic machinery with creative contemporary reuse.
