Designed as a miniature bombé chest, the piece is richly inlaid across the front, sides and top with an elaborate arrangement of flowers, foliage, cherubs and birds. Ebonised edging provides a strong contrast to the warm walnut and intricate inlaid decoration. The chest incorporates three drawers retaining their original ornate brass handles and stands on boldly modelled hairy paw feet. The original back also remains in place. No key is present. The small scale and sophisticated cabinetmaking suggest that the chest may have been produced as an apprentice piece, demonstrating the maker's skill in reproducing the construction and decorative techniques of full-size furniture in miniature. The chest is accompanied by a history associating it with Bridges Williams, who is stated to have worked for Lord Carnarvon. This provenance is presented as documented or received history rather than independently verified attribution. Presented in good antique condition and structurally sturdy, with knocks, marks and general wear consistent with its considerable age. The walnut has developed an attractive patina over time.
