The composition captures the historic city skyline, with Cologne Cathedral forming the dominant architectural landmark alongside the river, bridges and passing vessels. The elongated panoramic format enhances the expansive view across the Rhine and gives the piece considerable decorative presence despite its relatively compact proportions. Of particular interest are the iridescent decorative inclusions incorporated into the reverse-painted composition. These shimmering details accentuate areas including the water and passing steamers, subtly changing in appearance as the panel catches the light. The gently convex glass adds further depth to the scene, while the reverse-painted technique preserves the detailed surface behind the glass. Presented within its original-style wooden frame, the work has a distinctive period character with strong Art Deco influence. An unusual piece of European decorative art combining architectural, maritime and cityscape imagery, particularly appealing as a decorative souvenir of historic Cologne and the Rhine. Presented in good vintage condition with light age-related wear. The glass remains intact with good visual clarity and no visible significant loss to the reverse-painted decoration. The wooden frame is also in good order. Dimensions: Height: 13 cm Width: 44 cm Weight: Approximately 1.5 kg Style: Art Deco / European Decorative Art Country of Origin: Germany See less
