The bookcase is particularly notable for its deeply carved decoration depicting hanging fruit, flowers and scrolling foliage. The naturalistic ornament provides considerable depth and character to the façade and reflects the Victorian enthusiasm for elaborate carved furniture and botanical motifs. The open interior features an attractive panelled oak back and three adjustable shelves, allowing the spacing to be configured for books, decorative objects or a combination of both.
