The composition depicts a fir tree within a garden setting, rendered with a subtle and atmospheric use of colour. The loosely handled brushwork and delicate tonal variations give the work an Impressionistic quality, capturing the natural character of the subject rather than concentrating on precise botanical detail. The work is unsigned; however, provenance information relating to the artist is recorded on the reverse. It is one of three works by Joseph Otto Flatter from the same source. Presented beneath glass in a later grey frame, which provides a restrained contemporary surround while allowing the watercolour to remain the principal focus. Presented in good vintage condition, with appropriate signs of age consistent with its 1960s origin.
