Crafted in solid sterling silver, this substantial early 19th-century serving piece is executed in the enduring fiddle pattern, one of the most recognisable designs in georgian english flatware. The ladle features the characteristic broad, gently shaped terminal of the fiddle pattern, flowing into a long elegant stem and generously proportioned bowl. Its restrained design places emphasis on the quality of the silver, balanced proportions and accomplished craftsmanship rather than excessive ornamentation. The substantial bowl was intended for serving soups, punches and other dishes at the formal georgian dining table. Its elongated handle provides both visual elegance and practical reach, giving the piece a commanding presence among traditional table silver. Dating precisely to 1820, the ladle was produced at the transition from the regency period into the reign of george iv. Its combination of identifiable london silversmith, early date and classic fiddle pattern makes it particularly attractive to collectors of georgian silver and historic english flatware. A refined and highly usable example of more than two centuries old british silver craftsmanship, equally suitable for a serious silver collection or elegant contemporary table service.
