Dating to circa 1770, the dish represents “Meij” or May and was produced during the ownership of Justus Brouwer, who controlled the factory between 1739 and 1775. De Porceleyne Bijl was among the established Delftware factories of the period and produced a number of distinctive series depicting aspects of Dutch life. This footless form was traditionally known as a “Pannekoeken Bordje” or pancake plate. Comparable De Porceleyne Bijl dishes are represented in major museum collections. The dish remains a particularly attractive example of 18th-century Dutch Delftware, combining decorative appeal with an identifiable factory and series. The condition includes very minor losses to the glaze around the edge and a possible small restoration.
