The upper section incorporates a glazed bookcase fitted with two internal shelves, providing an attractive protected display area for books, collectibles and decorative objects. The glazing keeps the contents visible while helping to protect them from dust. Below, the fall-front bureau opens to create a practical writing surface at a desk height of 70.5 cm. Behind is a thoughtfully fitted interior incorporating multiple pigeonholes together with a small central drawer, providing organised storage for correspondence, stationery and writing accessories. The lower section incorporates two generously proportioned drawers, offering substantial additional concealed storage. The drawers retain their original wooden handles, preserving the understated character and authenticity of the piece. Subtle carved detailing provides further decorative interest without overwhelming the clean architectural form, while the bureau bookcase is raised upon turned legs united by a supporting stretcher for additional strength and stability. Particularly appealing is the golden oak itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and attractive figuring throughout. Warm honey-golden tones and an appealing aged patina give the timber considerable depth and character. The bureau bookcase also retains its key, an attractive and practical original feature. Very well constructed and presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and use consistent with its early 20th-century origin. For easier transportation and installation, the piece separates into two principal sections. Standing an impressive 199 cm high while measuring only 76.5 cm wide, this is an exceptionally practical piece for interiors where floor space is limited. It combines book storage, protected display space, a dedicated writing desk and extensive concealed storage within a remarkably compact footprint.
