The cupboard is richly carved with the words “LOVE GOD”, accompanied by decorative acorns, leaves and garlands. The combination of Gothic styling and religious inscription gives the piece a particularly strong ecclesiastical character. The single door is fitted with an oak handle and opens to reveal internal shelving, providing practical storage within the compact corner form. The cupboard retains its traditional planked back. The previous owner understood the cupboard to have originated from a church, although this provenance has not been independently verified. Constructed as a single piece and designed to be wall mounted in a corner, this is an unusual example of mid-19th-century Gothic Revival country furniture.
